The Taking, By Dean Koontz...

A luminous rain beats down on the roof, visions of human cruelty and war play on the TV, there is something scarily wrong with the animals, and soon all contact with the outside world is lost. Molly and Neil Sloan know something is wrong immediately, but to the extent of what truly awaits them outside their front door, they are only just beginning to fathom. Something is lurking in the dense fog, something that is unearthly and ruthless, something that is killing everyone without remorse. Molly and Neil must not lose hope, for once that is gone, they will surely perish.

Dean Koontz's The Taking is an amazingly terrifying thrill ride that I could not put down. Filled with devilish monsters and intense scenes of horror it's one of the scariest books I've ever read. Koontz shows this fear well within his main character Molly, a writer with a strange connection to canines. (This connection is one of the many things that made me love this novel. Being an animal lover with a few dogs of my own, it was nice to see how the dogs played out their role, instead of being the first to die like in many other horror novels and movies).

I give The Taking a 9 out of 10.
